While life insurance underwriting for breast cancer is complicated, we can help you. Every breast cancer history is unique, but there are some common things that life insurance underwriters look for when underwriting you for life insurance if you had Stage Zero breeast cancer, stage 1 breast cancer, or stage 2 breast cancer. Generally speaking, impaired risk life insurance companies look at your breast cancer history, your treatment, and the period of time that has passed since you completed your breast cancer treatment.
Many impaired risk life insurance companies will postpone offering life insurance coverage to you for a period of time after you have completed breast cancer treatment. The postponement period varies by life insurance company, the type of breast cancer you had, and the breast cancer treatment you received. We know which impaired risk life insurance companies will give you the best rate for life insurance based on your breast cancer history.
Flat Extra - A Flat extra is an additional cost that some life insurance companies will add to the cost of your life insurance. Flat extras are usually temporary charges that will last for a period of years and then end. It is extremely important to note that Flat Extras vary by life insurance companies and the duration you will have to pay the flat extra!
Important note - It pays to shop your information out on an annual basis because your life insurance rates may improve each year and we can help you do that. This is especially true if a life insurance company has added a flat extra charge to the cost of your life insurance. The further out you are from completion of treatment, the more competitive the life insurance underwriting. Sometimes it will make sense to write you with a number of life insurance companies over a period of time so that you get the best life insurance rates possible...we'll explain this to you...Remember, we work for you not the life insurance companies..We want to get you the best possible price for your life insurance.

Some of the Specifics that impaired risk life insurance companies look for when underwriting breast cancer survivors are the following: (keep in mind that these are general guidelines)
-
Stage - Was the cancer Stage Zero, Stage I or Stage II breast cancer?
-
Tumor Size - Was the tumor less than or greater than 2 cm? Was there more than 1 tumor?
-
Lymph Nodes - Were lymph nodes involved? If yes, how many lymph nodes were involved and where were lymph nodes located?
-
Metastasis - any evidence of metastasis? If yes, was it a single or mulitple metastatic lesions?
Stage Zero - Stage Zero, or in-situ breast cancers. It may be possible to obtain coverage within the first year of completion of treatment which would typically be a minimum of a lumpectomy plus radiation, or mastectomy. When available, life insurance rates would start at the "standard" rate plus a flat extra of $5 - $7.50 per every thousand dollars of coverage..See above for more information on flat extras and how they work.
Stage I - If you had a stage 1 breast cancer, tumor size may be between 0.5cm - 2.0 cm. With no lymph node involvement and lumpectomy/radiation or mastectomy/radiation, impaired risk life insurance underwriters will look at your age at diagnosis. Coverage availability is dependent on when you completed all treatment. Depending on your age, most life insurance companies will decline you for the first 1-5 years after completion of treatment, and then make coverage available to you at the "standard" rate with an additional flat extra charge.
Stage II - There are a few impaired risk life insurance companies that may consider you for life insurance if you have had Stage II breast cancer. The availability of coverage depends on the size of the tumor and if lymph nodes are involved. Generally speaking, if tumor size was greater than 2cm and no lymph nodes involved, OR less than 2cm with 1-2 lymph nodes involved, we may be able to help you get life insurance.
